What's included

How it Works

Step 1 Enroll

Click on the Enroll Now button, you will then be lead to our affiliated dive shops website where you can purchase the course directly from them.  (Note: the total price is $550.00 for the freedive course. $450.00 for the pool session is due upon enrollment and the remaining $100.00 can be paid afterwards when scheduling the open water session)

Step 2 Set it up

Now that your Enroll you will be prompted to create an account with SSI where you will receive your digital training materials ( you can also download the app for your phone). Make sure to update your personal information and upload a picture.

Step 3 Study

Once your account is up and running you can go a head and start studying your course materials online or via the SSI app. All digital course materials must be completed before your course appointment, so the sooner you start studying the better.

Step 4 Contact

Now that you are up and running, let's meet! I will be reaching out to everyone prior to the scheduled freedive course, but you can always reach out to us in advance if you have any question or concerns. I'll go over what to expect and how to better prepare for the course.

Step 5 EQUIPMENT

Once you have completed the enrollment process, it's time to get some equipment. You will need at least the basic essentials to complete this course. That consists of ; Mask, snorkel, fins, and weight belt. All equipment needs to be freediving specific, no substitutes will be allowed for your level one course. Course Materials

Knowledge & Theory

  • Physics of freediving: pressure, equalization, buoyancy.

  • Physiology of freediving: how the body responds to breath-holding (mammalian dive reflex).

  • Safety procedures and risk management.

  • Proper buddy system and rescue techniques.

  • Freediving equipment overview: mask, snorkel, fins, wetsuit, weights, lanyards.

  • Freediving disciplines (Static Apnea, Dynamic Apnea, Free Immersion, Constant Weight).

  • Breathing techniques before and after dives (ventilation, recovery breathing).

  • Relaxation and mental focus strategies.

Breathing & Relaxation

  • Diaphragmatic breathing.

  • Breathing exercises for relaxation and CO₂ tolerance.

  • Recovery breathing to safely finish dives.

  • Managing stress and remaining calm underwater.

Skills & Techniques

  • Equalization techniques (Valsalva, Frenzel).

  • Proper finning technique and body positioning.

  • Streamlining for efficiency.

  • Duck dive technique (surface entry).

  • Free immersion (pulling on the line).

  • Constant weight diving (finning down and up).

  • Static apnea training (breath-holding on the surface).

  • Dynamic apnea training (breath-holding while swimming horizontally).

Safety & Rescue

  • Blackout and near-blackout recognition and prevention.

  • Rescue techniques for distressed freedivers.

  • Safe buddy positioning and supervision.

  • Proper ascent and descent procedures.

Performance Benchmarks (SSI Freediving Level 1)

(approximate, may vary slightly by instructor/location)

  • Static apnea: ~1:30–2:00 minutes.

  • Dynamic apnea: ~25–40 meters (pool).

  • Constant weight depth: ~10–20 meters (open water).
